Between the Möbius strip of LA freeways and the neon alleys of Seoul, a diasporic narrator slips into the liminal realm of gwoemul: chimeric monsters from Korean folklore.
Guided by her infinitely wise child self, she inhabits the bodies of a thousand-year-old whale, a giant slug, a vengeful ghost haunting a karaoke room, and a rat-human horde swarming a street market. Moving between human and beast, self and other, and living and dead, she finds belonging in shapeshifting.
