Scarlett Kim
A polymath, Scarlett creates participatory experiences that expand liveness, drawing from theatre, XR, game and ritual. As a producer, Scarlett bridges cultural institutions, community ecosystems, and innovative initiatives to champion artists imagining new worlds. Through subversive creative vision and entrepreneurial strategy, Scarlett has shaped paradigm-shifting field initiatives in the immersive and interactive fields.
Scarlett was recently honored on the XLIST 2025, a celebration of the 100 most creative visionaries in the experiential economy.
Scarlett is Co-Founder/Executive Creative Producer of Center for Unclassifiable Technologies & Experiences (C.U.T.E.); Interdisciplinary Fellow at Royal Shakespeare Company; Visiting Artist at Stanford Arts; Co-Founder of Independent XR Distribution Coalition at MIT Open Doc Lab; and Co-Founder/Co-Producer of Worlds in Play, a gathering of game and theatre practitioners. Scarlett serves on the board of Los Angeles Performance Practice, is a member of The Kilroys, and mentors for NEW INC.
Previously, as Director of Innovation & Strategy of Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Scarlett led the transmedia department of the largest repertory theater in the US. Scarlett co-founded and served as Artistic Director of The Mortuary, performance laboratory for unclassifiable experiments. At CultureHub, global art and technology community founded by La MaMa and SeoulArts, Scarlett oversaw artistic programming of the LA studio.
Other highlights of Scarlett’s creative practice and leadership include participating in the 2024 Disney Live Entertainment: Creative Intensive and collaborations with Chloé Zhao/Book of Shadows, REDCAT, East West Players, Prague Quadrennial, Z Space, Korea Foundation, Creative Australia, Chilean National Council of Culture & Arts, Thomas Mann House/Goethe-Institut, and BOLD Theater Women’s Leadership Circle.
A sought-after speaker, Scarlett’s voice has been featured across cross-industry platforms including The Immersive Immersive (Keynote, 2023), LDI (Co-host, XLIVE), SXSW, SIGGRAPH, AWE, USITT, Next Stage/The Immersive Experience Institute.
